SPC Radiant Panels Make The Grade At Norwich City Council

Radiant panels

One of the largest colleges in the country has turned to heating and cooling specialists SPC for help in designing and fitting bespoke radiant panels for a new refurbishment project.

Norwich City College, which was founded in 1891 and home to more than 11,000 full time and part time students, contacted Leicester-based SPC for help with its new science laboratories, which opened in Autumn 2014, and follows previous projects including a Seminar room and a student Start- up lounge.

One of the principle challenges of all the projects was the use of bespoke shapes and colours for the ceiling panels – in the case of the main student Start-up Lounge it was large triangular shapes – as well as to incorporate attenuation and lighting into the design.

For this, SPC offered its ThermaTile Plus range of radiant ceiling panels. Not restricted to standard ceiling grid sizes, the ThermaTile Plus radiant ceiling panels can be freely suspended and shaped to suit individual requirements. ThermaTile Plus was also chosen for the project because the ceiling panels can be pre-cut, allowing for lighting.

The ThermaTile Plus radiant ceiling panel has been proven to provide greater energy-savings when compared to other types of heating such as wall-mounted radiators and under floor heating. The panels also have superb structural strength, which enables the suspension of the radiant panel with fewer fixing points.

Mark Randell, Property Services Manager for Norfolk Educational Services, said: “We were very pleased with the project outcome, and in particular the ceiling panels supplied to us by SPC.

“From design through to installation, SPC were great to deal with and the ThermaTile Plus range gave us the flexibility to design rooms students wanted to be in. We couldn’t be happier.”

Warwick Taylor, SPC Managing Director, added: “We are delighted to have worked with such a prestigious college as Norwich in the design and refurbishment of some its science laboratories, Seminar room and the Student Start-up Lounge.

“We are able to offer our customers help with the design of our radiant panels, making the process as seamless and easy as possible for them. We wish everyone at the college all for the best for the future.”
